A daily application of testosterone gel (5g, 7.5g, or 10g) contains (50mg, 75mg, or 100mg) of testosterone respectively, to be applied daily to the skin’s surface. Increases in hematocrit, reflective of increases in red blood cell mass, may require lowering or discontinuation of testosterone. It would also be appropriate to re-evaluate the hematocrit 3 to 6 months after starting treatment, and then annually. If hematocrit becomes elevated, stop therapy until hematocrit decreases to an acceptable concentration. An increase in red blood cell mass may increase the risk of thromboembolic events.
